Featured Speaker:  D. Keith Winsten, Executive Director of the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne

Topic:  Brevard Business Development

Promoted as a “unique experience and facility that is nowhere here on the east coast,” the proposed world-class aquarium and conservation center at Port Canaveral will serve as a key economic generator for the Space Coast.  Important to tourism, this project will give the Space Coast a critical mass of attractions that are authentic. The Brevard Zoo has a substantial impact on the economy and generates labor income and consumer spending that benefit our local, regional and state economies. Learn how the proposed aquarium and conservation center at Port Canaveral would make that impact even larger.

D. Keith Winsten, the Executive Director of the Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida since 2004, has more than 30 years of experience in non-profit administration, communications, wildlife conservation and environmental education.  Working at nature centers in New York and Massachusetts and at zoos in Rhode Island and Chicago, Keith’s work in conservation education and exhibit development has won numerous national awards. He has helped develop professional training programs in the United States, Brazil, and China.  Mr. Winsten has a B.S. in Biology from Yale University and a M.S. in Public Health from the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Mr. Winsten currently serves on the Citizen Oversight Committee for the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Program and is a member of the Space Coast Tourist Development Council where he chairs the Marketing Committee. Professionally active in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, he has chaired the Conservation Education Committee and has served as a Board Member. He has also served on the board of the Brevard Nature Alliance and on the regional advisory board of One Blood. He has been recognized locally with the 2011 and 2020 Brevard Walk of Fame from Eckerd Youth Alternatives, 2017 Solomon Portrait of Excellence Award from the Space Coast Office of Tourism and the 2019 Rodney S. Ketcham Leadership Icon Award from LEAD Brevard.  Mr. Winsten is the proud father of three children and two dogs.
